Nur Bai
Nur Bai, 1739, courtesan. A celebrated singer and dancer of Delhi, she so fascinated the Persian invader Nadir Shah with her performance, that he gave her an award of Rs. 4,000, and ordered that she should be taken to Iran along in his entourage. It was with greatest difficulty that she could save herself frolai being carried off to Iran. She lived in a magnificent style and rode out on an elephant, with liveried servants.
