Rai Bagan
Rai Bagan, later 17th cent., warrior lady. Wife of Udaram of Basin, who had devotedly served the Mughal empire, she was given the title of Rai Bagan (`Tiger princess’) by Aurangzeb for her conspicuous bravery. She accompanied Kartalb Khan in the campaign against Shivaji in January 1661. The Mughal general was completely surrounded but was allowed to go when she interceded with Shivaji. In October 1670 she again joined the Mughals against Shivaji, but was defeated, though she was allowed to return to her estate.
