Safiat-un-Nissa
Safiat-un-Nissa, 1680. Mughal princess. Daughter of Aurangzeb’s rebel son, Akbar, she was left with Durgadas, the Rajput chief of Marwar, when Akbar fled to Iran in 1687. She was brought up as a Muslim by Durgadas who also engaged a Muslim lady-teacher to teach her Quran and the tennants of her faith. In 1696, when she was more than 16 years old, she was restored to her grand-father, Aurangzeb, at Brahmapuri, who was agreeably surprised to learn that she has not only been brought up as a Muslim but also knows the Quran by heart.
