Salima Sultana Begum
Salima Sultana Begum, d.1612 Mughal princess. Daughter of Gulrukh Begum, and grand-daughter of Babar, she was married in 1558 to Bairam Khan, the regent of Emperor Akbar. After the death of Bairam Khan in 1561, she became the wife of Akbar and the mother of his son, Murad. She was also a gifted poet. Savat, fl. ca. 560-480 B.C., lay disciple of the Buddha. She was married to King Udayama of Kausambi, who had fallen in love with her. She wanted to meet the Buddha but the King had no faith in him, as the step-queen Chutamagandiya, who hated the Buddha, had poisoned his ears against her. The King later relented and she was able to visit the Buddha with gifts and offerings. She was complimented by the Buddha as her foremost lay disciple, and for her goodwill for others.
