Sultan Jahan Begum
Sultan Jahan Begum, 1858-1930, Ruler of Bhopal. Third woman ruler to rule Bhopal in succession, she was the daughter of Begum Shah Jahan and Bakshi Baqi Muhammad Khan. Violent dissensions arose between her and her mother, when she married for the second time in 1871 because of the mechanization of her step-father. This led to much trouble though they were later healed. Sultan Jahan married in 1874 and came to the throne in 1901 on the death of her mother. She proved a wise and capable ruler and freely moved in public under a veil. On 18 Ma; 1926 she abdicated in favour of her son. She visited Europe twice. She also the author of An Account of My Life.
