Tai Telin
Tai Telin, 1806, Mahratha warrior. Originally a low-caste woman of oil-crusher class, she became the mistress of Pratinidhi of Aundh who was in rebellion against Peshwa Baji Rao II. She collected a large force and with its help, secured the release of her lover from captivity. She continued to defy the forces of the Peshwa, even after her lover was defeated (March 1800) and it took eight months of further fighting to capture her and to confine her to Pune.
