Usha Mehta
Usha Mehta, 1942-46, freedom fighter and teacher. A member of the Congress Socialist Party, she, along with her associates, organized a secret radio station during the Quit India Movement in 1942, and became its news announcer. The station was raided on 12 November and Usha Mehta was arrested. Interrogated and tortured for six months, she was ultimately sentenced for four years and released only in April 1946. She later took a doctorate degree on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, and joined Bombay University as a lecturer.
