Alexander Milne
Milne, A(Ian) A(lexander) (1882-1956). British children’s writer, the creator of Winnie-the-Pooh. He worked as a journalist before making his name with several plays. During this time he also wrote a number of poems for his son Christopher Robin, some of which featured Christopher Robin’s toy bear Winnie-the-Pooh. These poems were later published in two volumes. Winnie-the-Pooh reappeared in the two collections of stories, Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928). All four books have had lasting success with children. Toad of Toad Hall (1929) is his adaptation for the stage of Kenneth Grahame’s classic The Wind in the Willows.
