Anne
Anne (1665-1714), Queen of Britain. The daughter of James II, she succeeded her brother-in-law William III in 1702. Until 1710 she was greatly influenced by the Duke of Marlborough and his dominating wife Sarah, and this, combined with her lack of intelligence and energy, encouraged the growing supremacy of Parliament. She married Prince George of Denmark in 1683, but her only child (of 17) to survive infancy died before her and she was succeeded by George I, Elector of Hanover, the nearest Protestant heir.
