Artur Rubinstein
Artur Rubinstein, (1886-1982). US pianist of Polish birth. Famous as an interpreter of Chopin, Rubinstein gave his first public performance at an early age. He made his US debut in 1906 and subsequently gave concerts in Britain, Spain, and South America. During the course of a long career he played in almost every country in the world. Composers to have written works especially for him include Manuel de Falla and Heitor Villa-Lobos. Rubinstein is regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the century.
