Ashkenazy, Vladimir
Ashkenazy, Vladimir (1937), Russian concert pianist. He studied at the Moscow Conservatoire, and gained the second prize in the International Chopin Competition when he was only 17. In 1962 he was joint winner of the Tchaikovsky competition. He made his London debut in 1963 and settled in Iceland ten years later. Ashkenazy became widely known through his recordings, especially of Chopin and Mozart.
