Bing Crosby
Bing Crosby (1904-77), US singer, born Harry Crosby. His show business career began while he was still at school, when he played the drums for a rhythm band. He subsequently became the most famous of the crooners of the 1930’s, selling nearly 300 million records containing some 3000 different titles. His ‘White Christmas’, written by Irving Berlin, stood for many years the best-selling record of all time. He made several films, notably Going My Way (1944) and the series of ‘Road’ films, in which he co-starred with the comedian Bob Hope.
