Bob Hope
Bob Hope, stage name of Leslie Townes Hope (1903- ). US film comedian. Born in Britain, he was taken to the US as a child of three. He appeared in many Hollywood films from 1938 onwards and became famous for his rapid-fire wisecracks and deadpan expression. The Road to. Singapore (1940) began the popular ‘Road’ series of comedies, in which he starred with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. He presided at the annual presentation of the Academy Awards for some 40 years.
