Charles Lindbergh
Charles Lindbergh, (1902-74). US aviator. He became an airmail pilot in 1926 and the following year made the first solo transatlantic flight (from New York’ to Paris) in his monoplane Spirit of St Louis. In 1932 his two-year-old son was kidnapped and murdered. This led to new legislation against kidnapping, nick-named the ‘Lindbergh Law’. Lindbergh later made a number of speeches recommending US neutrality in’ World War IL provoking criticism from President Roosevelt.
