David Bowie
David Bowie, real name David Jones (1947), British rock singer and songwriter, noted for his many changes of style and image. Bowie began to perform in pop bands while still in his teens and also trained as a mime artist. After enjoying his first hit with ‘Space Oddity’ (1969), he became a major star with the albums The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust (1972) and Aladdin Sane (1973), which established his bizarre androgynous image. His later albums range from the experimental Heroes (1977), recorded in Berlin, to the more main-stream Let’s Dance (1983) and the eclectic Outside (1995). He has also acted in a number of films, notably The Man Who Fell to Earth (1975), and exhibited his paintings.
