Edward I
Edward I (1239-1307), King of England from 1272, son of Henry III. During his reign he worked out a series of statutes designed to strengthen government aid remove abuses. He also brought the administrative system to maturity and furthered the development of Parliament. By 1282 all of Wales was brought under English domination. He also attempted to subjugate Scotland, but was not successful because of the powerful leadership of Wallace and Bruce.
