Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (1926), Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In 1947 she married her third cousin Philip Mountbatten (1921), who was created Duke of Edinburgh before the marriage. She succeeded her father George VI to the throne in 1952 and has four children. Charles (1948) was created Prince of Wales in 1958. Anne (1950), a noted horsewoman, was granted the title Princess Royal by the Queen in 1987. Their younger brothers are Andrew, Duke of York (1960), and Edward (1964). In addition to her royal duties, she has brought particular dedication to her role as head of the Commonwealth. Despite the declining popularity of the Royal Family in the 1990’s, she remains a highly respected figure.
