Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton (1945), British rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He studied at art school before taking up the guitar at 17. After playing with various groups, he found his first real success when he formed the group Cream in 1966. Each of the group’s albums sold more than a million copies in the US. The group split up in 1968 and Clapton subsequently formed the group Derek and the Dominoes, with whom he recorded the album Layla (1970). During the 1970s his career was affected by drug addiction but he later came back to enjoy even greater success with such albums as Journeyman (1986) and Unplugged (1992):
