Federico Fellini
Federico Fellini (1920-93), Italian film director. Originally a cartoonist and writer, from the 1950’s he directed a number of highly influential and imaginative films, including La Dolce Vita (1959), a portrait of the frivolous lives of a group of fashionable Romans. 8 (1%3), a fantasy autobiography, was so named because at this stage in his life Fellini had made eight and a half films. Later films include Fellini Satyricon (1969), a version of a tale by the classical Latin writer Petronius, and Ginger and Fred (1986). He was awarded a special Oscar for his lifetime achievement in 1993.
