Georges Bizet
Georges Bizet (1838-75), French composer. He studied music at the Paris Conservatoire from the age of ten and won a number of prizes, including the Prix de Rome in 1857. His first opera, The Pearl fishers, was produced in 1863. His most famous work is the opera Car-men, which was first performed in 1875, just before his death. He also wrote songs, piano music, and orchestral works.
