Graham Greene
Graham Greene (1904-91), British novelist and writer. A Roman Catholic convert, he travelled extensively and worked as a journalist and a film critic. He divided his work into ‘entertainments’, such as the spy-thriller The Third Man (1949), and serious novels that reflect religious and moral concerns, including Brighton Rock (1938), The Power and the Glory (1940), and The Heart of the Matter (1948). As a narrative writer, Greene was much influenced by film techniques and wrote film scripts for a number of his novels, including Our Man in Havana (1960).
