Henry Kissinger
Henry Kissinger, (1923- ). US politician, born in Germany of Jewish parents. He emigrated to the US with his family in 1938 to escape the Nazi persecution of the Jews. He served in several advisory positions from 1955 to 1968, when Richard Nixon appointed him presidential assistant for national security affairs. Kissinger subsequently played a major role in negotiations to achieve peace in Vietnam, earning him a share in the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize. He served as secretary of state (1973-76) and in 1979 published his memoirs.
