Homer
Homer (before 700 BC). The traditional author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, the earliest works of Greek literature. The Iliad tells of the Trojan War while the Odyssey recounts the travels of Odysseus — both stories that had been handed down by word of mouth from generation to generation. Homer is said to have been a blind minstrel from the island of Chios.
