Jacob Grimm
Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) and his brother Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859), German scholars. Their famous collection of folk-tales, many, of which had never been written down before, was published in three volumes (1812-13). These include such stories as `Rumpelstiltskin’ and little Red Riding Hood’. The collection became the basis of the study of German folklore, as well as a popular children’s book. Both Jacob and Wilhelm became professors at Gottingen and Berlin. Jacob’s German Grammar was one of the greatest language studies of the age.
