Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson, (1958- ). US singer and songwriter. The youngest of the Jackson Five, a Black pop group consisting of five (later six) brothers, he sang on most of their hits of the 1970s. In 1979 he released the solo album Off the Wall, which became a bestseller. This was followed by the dance album Thriller (1983), his most successful record, and Bad (1987). Jackson is also well known for his eccentric and reclusive lifestyle. In 1993 his career was plunged into scandal when allegations that he had sexually abused a minor led to a police investigation. The case was withdrawn following payment of a multi-million-dollar settlement to the boy’s family. In 1995 Jackson released History, a mixture of old hits and new songs.
