Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson, (1966- ). US heavyweight boxer. A Black, Tyson grew up in poverty in New York City. In 1986 he became the youngest world-heavyweight champion in history when he defeated Trevor Berbick in a World Boxing Championship bout. He went on to establish his supremacy by taking the World Boxing Association title (1986) and that of the International Boxing Federation (1988). A ferociously aggressive fighter, Tyson crushed all challengers until 1990, when a controversial decision gave the IBF title to James Douglas. In 1992 he received a six-year jail sentence for raping a contestant in a beauty contest. Following his release in 1995 he won a comeback fight in 89 seconds, earning $25 million.
