Paolo Veronese
Paolo Veronese, (c. 1528-88). Italian painter of the Venetian school. Born in Verona, he evolved a rich decorative style, and often included architectural elements in his pictures. His best paintings were of large-scale historical, biblical, and mythological subjects, such as The Family of Darius before Alexander (c. 1570) and Feast in the House of Levi (1573). However, the naturalism of these pictures brought charges of irreverence from the Inquisition.
