Paul Newman
Paul Newman, (1925- ). US film actor and director. He first appeared in films in the 1950s and has played a variety of heroes and antiheroes. His earlier films include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1959) and Cool Hand Luke (1967). His highly successful partnership with Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) was revived in The Sting (1973). Later successes include The Verdict (1982), The Color of Money (1986), which earned him an Oscar, and Nobody’s Fool (1994). Newman is married to the actress Joanne Woodward, whom he has directed in several films. He has also created a highly successful range of food products.
