Ralph Vaughan Williams
Ralph Vaughan Williams, (1872-1958). British com-poser. Vaughan Williams was one of the first English composers to collect English folk songs, which he used in such works as the Norfolk Rhapsody (1906). His Fantasia on a Theme by Tallis (1910) was influenced by music of the Tudor period. His works also include nine sym-phonies (of which the ‘London’ and ‘Sea’ symphonies are the most popular), the ballet Job (1931), much choral music, and the opera The Pilgrim’s Progress (1949).
