Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-82), US philosopher, essayist, and poet. He resigned from his pulpit at the Second Unitarian Church in Boston in 1832. After visiting Europe he settled at Concord, Massachusetts, where: he lived until his death. His writings, including The Conduct o f Life (1860), affirm the’ importance of the individual and preach a romantically idealist philosophy of social reform.
