Richard Burton
Richard Burton (1925-84), Welsh actor. After some years with the Old Vic Company, during which he played several Shakespearean leads, he went to Holly-Wood in 1952. Helped by his good looks and fine voice, he gradually won popularity as a film actor. In 1964 he married the actress Elizabeth Taylor after a highly publicized affair; the couple were later divorced, re-married, and divorced again. His films include Look Back in Anger (1959), Cleopatra (1962), Anne of the Thousand Days (1970), and a film version of Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood (1971).
