Robert Frost
Robert Frost (1874-1963), US poet. From the age of ten Frost was brought up in New England, a region that would provide him with lifelong inspiration. As a young man he worked in menial jobs and showed few signs of literary talent; he did not begin to write seriously until a visit to Britain in 1912-15, when he met a number of contemporary poets. His first collection,
Fuchs, Klaus A Boy’s Will, appeared in 1913. Following his return to the US, Frost found a large and appreciative audience with such volumes as Mountain Interval (1916) and New Hampshire (1923). The deceptive simplicity of such poems as ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ made him one of the most popular of modern poets. For the rest of his life he combined poetry with farming and lecturing at universities.
