Sir Michael Redgrave
Sir Michael Redgrave, (1908-85). British actor. The son of an acting family, he first appeared on stage in 1934. He performed in many Shakespearean roles and acted in and directed modern plays. His numerous films included The Browning Version (1951) and Oh, What a Lovely War! (1969). His daughter Vanessa (1937- ) is also an actress. Her films include Camelot (1967), Mary Queen of Scots (1971), Julia (1977), and Howards End (1992). She is also known for her involvement in left-wing politics, as is her brother Corin (1939- ), a stage actor. Their actress sister Lynn (1944- ) is perhaps best known for her role in the film Georgy Girl (1967). Vanessa’s daughters Natasha Richardson (1963- ) and Joely Richardson (1966- ) have also appeared in films and on television.
