Sir Noel Coward
Sir Noel Coward (1899-1973), British actor, playwright, and composer. Having appeared in his first play at the age of 12, he became famous as a playwright for his witty and satiric view of the interwar years. His first successful play, The Vortex (1924), was followed by the popular comedy Hay Fever (1925). His most popular musical, Bitter Sweet (1929), was successful in both London and New York. Among his films is the classic Brief En-counter (1945), which he wrote and produced. He was knighted in 1970.
