Spencer Tracy
Spencer Tracy, (1900-67). US film actor. Tracy, who originally hoped to enter the priesthood, began his screen career in 1930 and at first, played mainly in gangster roles. In his later films, he was generally cast as a good character, often playing the leading man opposite Katharine Hepburn, his real-life lover. His films include Captains Courageous (1937), Adam’s Rib (1949), Bad Day at Black Rock (1955), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinngr (1967). He is usually considered the leading screen actor of the 1940s and 1950s.
