Vivian Fuchs
Vivian Fuchs (1908), British geologist and explorer. He studied at Cambridge and went on several field trips abroad as a geologist. In 1957 he led the British Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition, with Sir Edmund Hillary. The expedition took four months to cross to the Pole, and mapped large areas of previously unexplored territory. He was knighted on his return in 1958. His autobiography, A Time to Speak, was published in 1990.
