Vladimir Nabokov
Vladimir Nabokov, (1899-1977). Russian novelist and critic. His aristocratic family fled Russia at the Revolution. After some years in Europe, Nabokov became professor of Russian and European literature at Cornell University in the US. His early works were -writ-ten in Russian but from the 1940s he chose to write in English.. Lolita (1955), the story of a middle-aged man’s infatuation with’ a 12-year-old girl, brought him international fame,’ though some of this was due to the controversial subject of the novel. Pale Fire (1962) is perhaps his greatest work. He also published scholarly works on literature and entomology.
