The Camel
There are many animals in the world. Some are big, some are small. The camel is a big animal. It is called the ‘ship of the desert’. It is a very important animal of dessert area of the country. It has a short tail and four-long legs. It has one or two hemp. His height is about eight-feet. It can run very fast in the desert where it is difficult to walk for other animals and man. It is used for loading and riding. In ancient times, it was used in wars and battles. It can carry men and heavy loads. In earlier times, a number of camels strung with one another used to travel across long distances. It was called a caravan. These carvans were used for trade. They used to stride in a single file always following their leader.
The camel can walk easily in the sandy places. It can live without water for several days. It is also used to draw water from the deep wells. The farmers use it to plough the fields. The camels of Bikaner are famous. They are used for heavy work also. The old camel force of Bikaner was famous for its glory.
The camels are found in large number in our country, specially in Rajasthan’s desert areas like Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur etc. It is the beauty of the deserts. Now we can polo riding on them. Camels are used by postmen to distribute the letters. They join the villages and towns as a means of transportation. Camel is very important animal for the deserts. During Pushkar fair thousands of camels are brought to change hands.
