When was the parachute invented?
A parachute is a device which is designed to reduce the speed of fall. Leonardo da Vinci was the first person who designed the parachute which was like a pyramid with a square shape base. In 1797, Andre-Jacques Garnerin were the first person to descend with a parachute. He jumped from a balloon with his own designed parachute. His brother perfected it and his daughter Elisa exhibited parachute jumps in Europe and .America. In the military aircrafts, the parachutes were used towards the end of First World War. The actual parachute is a circle of 50 sq. metre of strong silk or nylon, of very light weight, weighing only 5-6 kgs.
A thick circle of ropes hangs from the circle and is hooked to the body or an object. These ropes are also of silk or nylon.
