Don’t split infinitives.
An infinitive is the word “to” follow by a verb-to go, to study, and so on. Splitting an infinitive means putting a word between “to” and the verb-to boldly go, to quietly study.
There is no actual rule about this practice. In fact, people who study grammar say there’s nothing wrong with splitting the occasional infinitive. However, lots of regular folks (including many teachers) believe that it is a mistake to ever split an infinitive. So to be on the safe side, don’t do it.
(By the way, did you catch the split infinitive in the previous paragraph? If you think it’s “to ever split,” you’re right!)
