Be able to recognize a simple sentence.
A simple sentence has just one complete subject and one complete predicate. Simple sentences can be short or long. They can also contain compound subjects and predicates, as long as there is only one of each.
In the following examples, the complete subjects are underlined and the complete predicates are in boldface. Joe coughed.
My printer just ran out of paper.
The lady who lives down the street from me is always sticking her nose into my business.
Fluffy and Ginger hissed and arched their backs.
