I have come to deliver a speech in favour of the motion on whether cell phones should be allowed in schools or not.
The advantage of allowing cell phones in schools should not be ignored as these can actually add value to the educational experience rather than just being a detriment to it. I feel that certain rules should be developed on how students should handle devices during a class. The BYOD-Bring Your Own Device idea, is also gaining momentum as a learning tool. A number of educational apps have been developed and the use of cell phones can help to incorporate more interactivity in the learning process. Moreover, banning any type of technology may foster inequity.
Most of the smartphones act as substitutes to computers and students can look up facts on the internet and also get assistance with classwork by using their smartphones.
To learn about cell phone etiquette classroom is the best place for students. It is essential that children must learn about the reality of the cell phone. They can make more positive choices on how and when they should use this device. To order to reduce parents’ fears about the safety and whereabouts of their children and to prevent the inappropriate use of cell phones, strict guidelines about their use at school should be developed by the school.
I would like to conclude by saying that a cell phone agreement should be formulated that outlines the rights and responsibilities for the use of mobile technology whilst at school and the use of cell phones should be permitted in schools.
