Date 9th March: The rapidly increasing prices are causing a great concern to the people of India. Price rise is a worldwide phenomenon and India is no exception. Prices of everything are rising rapidly. Even the essential commodities like gas, pulses, sugar, edible oils, tea food grains and petrol, etc. have been going beyond the reach of the poor people.
The fixed-income groups like the salaried people, labour classes and pensioners are the worst hit by the rising prices. Numerous factors are responsible for the rapid increases in prices. Increasing population is a major cause of rising prices. When the production does not increase but more and more children are added daily to our population, the demand for the supply exceeds.
The result is increase in prices. Defective planning and distribution system has led to rise in prices. Moreover, the standard of living has increased. Now, most of the people do not remain satisfied with the bare necessities of life. They need more things than they needed earlier. The increasing demand of things leads to rising in prices.
The govt. should tackle the problem of rising prices on a war footing. The handers the black marketer’s and profiteers be dealt with severely the public distribution system of essential commodities be made more efficient. The govt. should seriously boost the marketing and sales of its own agricultural produce. The spiralling prices do not have any impact on the elite sections of society. It is the middle class and the people living below the poverty line who are the hardest hit. So the policy decision makers should keep the poor persons in mind all the time.
