History: Some areas of present Chhattisgarh were Princely state during British rule till 1947. The British allowed them a large measure of autonomy. Later on, they were merged with Madhya Pradesh. The people of the land demanded a separate autonomous state and Chhattisgarh was formed on November 01, 2000.
Population: The state of Chhattisgarh is 16th most populous state in India with a population of around 25.5 million people.
Land Size: With an area of 135,190 sq.km, Chhattisgarh is 10th largest in terms of land area.
Religion: More than 98 % of the people living in Chhattisgarh are Hindus.
Language: Hindi and Chattisgarhi language are used by majority of people. Chhattisgarhi language is a dialect of Hindi.
Minerals: Chhattisgarh has one the richest mineral wealth in India. Around 28 types of minerals are found here, including iron ore, bauxite, limestone, coal, gold and diamond. The state accounts for around 23% of the iron ore deposits of India.
