How does a hurricane develop?

Hurricane is a violent tropical storm. These are also known as Willy-willies, tropical cyclones and typhones. They develop from clusters of thunderstorms building up over warm tropical seas. Hurricanes tighten into a spiral with a calm ring of low pressure called the eye at the centre. They then sweep westwards, bringing torrential rain and winds gusting up to 360 kph (220 mph).
