Where were the clay bricks first made?
About 8000 years ago, people lived in Egypt, Israel and Mesopotamia made bricks from clay. They left them in the sun to harden. The clay bricks were used to build houses. However, heavy rain could turn the bricks to mud.
About 5500 years ago, people began to bake bricks in ovens, called kilns. This made the bricks hard and waterproof. The oldest known bricks came from the town of Jericho.
