Allen, Woody
Allen, Woody, stage name of Allen Stewart Konigsberg (1935), US film director, writer, and actor. As a young stand-up comedian, Allen developed his familiar persona of the neurotic wisecracking Jewish intellectual. He later enjoyed success in his own Broadway plays and his first film What’s New Pussycat? (1965). Since the late 1960s he has directed his own films, which range from light comedies to more sombre work such as September (1988). His best-known films
