Humphrey Bogart
Humphrey Bogart full name Humphrey De Forest Bogart (1899-1957), US actor. He is famous for his portrayal of the tough guy in such films as San Quentin (1937) and The Maltese Falcon (1942). In The Big Sleep (1946) he starred with Lauren Bacall, who became his fourth wife. Notable later films include The African Queen (1951) and The Caine Mutiny (1954). He is remembered for his husky drawl and the catchphrase “Play it again,
Sam”, which is in fact a misquote from the film Casablanca (1942).
“For all his outward toughness, insolence, braggadocio, and contempt…there came through a kind of sadness, loneliaess, and heartbreak (all of which weravery part of Bogie the man). I always felt sorry for him — sorry that he had imposed upon himself the facade of the character with which he had become identified. Edward G. Robinson on Humphrey Bogart”
