Placido Domingo
Placido Domingo (1941), Spanish tenor. Domingo was brought up in Mexico, where he studied music and singing. Initially a baritone, he took his first major tenor role in 1960 and made his New York debut six years later. Since the early 1970s he has been in constant demand in the world’s great opera houses. He has also starred in several films, including Carmen (1985). In 1990 he reached a huge international audience when he appeared with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras at a televised concert in Rome to mark the World Cup.
