Channamma
Channamma, 1778-1829, Rani of Kittur, Belgaum Dist., Maharostra. She continued to resist the British even after the fall of the Peshwa in 1818. It was only in 1829, that the fort of Kittur could be captured by them. A commemorative stamp in her honour was issued on 23 October 1977.
